Egham-by-Runnymede Arts and Heritage Festival to launch in 2018 with Women’s Suffrage theme
Egham Museum, in partnership with Royal Holloway University of London, and Egham Town Team, are to launch an exciting new summer Arts and Heritage Festival in 2018 with the inaugural theme of Women’s Suffrage, marking 100 years of some women having the vote.
The £105,900 festival programme, generously supported by a grant of £85,500 from Arts Council England with additional support from Royal Holloway, will create a new and distinctive arts and heritage offer for the community and visitors. Building on the groundwork laid during the 2015 Magna Cart
a celebrations, the new Festival aims to promote Egham as a vibrant cultural destination in its own right.
Commenting on the award, Sarah Corn, Curator of Egham Museum, said:
“The Egham-by-Runnymede Arts and Heritage Festival marks an exciting moment in the Museum’s development, sustaining the momentum built up in 2015 and highlighting the vital role museums can play in the cultural life of their communities. The Festival also complements the plans to regenerate Egham being led by Runnymede Borough Council, providing a blueprint for the cultural and heritage offer that will set Egham apart from other local retail destinations.”
In assessing Egham Museum’s application for funding, Arts Council England commented that the museum “has a strong track record in delivering historical and cultural activity” and that “the quality of the artists involved is likely to be high, with strong backgrounds in music composition and performance, textile making and community arts”.
