Museum plans for 2017!
It’s going to be a busy and exciting year for us here at the museum in 2017. We’d like to share with you our plans and hope that you will be able to take part in one or more of our projects. Take a look at what is coming up…
January: Inspire Strode’s
We will be hosting micro-volunteer opportunities for Strode’s College students to experience the museum in an hour, as part of the #iwill campaign.
January-April: Floods Anthology project
In partnership with Royal Holloway University of London’s Community Action, we will be developing a book documenting the recent 2014 flooding that affected our community. With a team of dedicated students leading the project delivery, we will be looking for people to share their experiences of the flood through interviews, photographs and press cuttings. These will be featured in the book, and the interviews will be stored at Egham Museum in our archive.

February-April: Bronze Age Runnymede and the British Museum
As part of our ‘Migration & Memory’ Heritage Lottery Funded project, not only have we produced an award-winning ‘Bronze Age Runnymede: Excavations at Runnymede Bridge‘ documentary, we are now offering local primary schools the opportunity for an all-expenses trip to the British Museum to see many of the artefacts from the excavation itself. This will be accompanied by a selection of school resources, developed by Egham Museum.

February: LGBT History Month
In February, we will be supporting LGBT History Month (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender), the theme of which is ‘PSHE, Citizenship & Law’ linked to the 50th anniversary of The 1967 Sexual Offences Act. The themes of citizenship and law are something that Runnymede is very familiar with through the Magna Carta and its legacy. Throughout the month, we will be sharing information via our Twitter and Facebook pages about related events and news, and will be using it as an opportunity to gather your ideas for an Egham-based LGBT project that uncovers hidden histories and celebrates our local LGBT community, culminating in a temporary exhibition at the museum later in the year.
March-May: The Plague and Egham
Our new temporary exhibition, which comes to Egham on tour from the Guildhall Library in London, will chart The Great Plague of 1665. We will also investigate how plague affected the Egham community.
March onward: Citizens
We are delighted to be part of Royal Holloway’s ‘Citizens’ project, a £1m project part-funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund, which will build on the legacy of the Magna Carta.
March: new loan
We will be unveiling a significant new loan… watch this space!
April: Surrey Museums Month
We are looking forward to being part of this county-wide programme – this year the theme is Surrey’s Women.
June: Patrons Annual Reception

June: Magna Carta Day
As in previous years, you will find an Egham Museum presence in the United Church of Egham on Magna Carta Day. This year, our pop-up exhibition theme is ‘Our Changing High Streets‘

June: Englefield Green Village Fair
New for 2017, Egham Museum is hoping to have a presence at Englefield Green Village Fair, bringing a selection of collection artefacts and a mini pop-up exhibition.
June: Virginia Water Carnival Capers
New for 2017, Egham Museum is hoping to have a presence at Virginia Water Carnival Capers, bringing a selection of collection artefacts and a mini pop-up exhibition.
June onward: Suffrage in Egham
In preparation for the centenary of (some) women getting the vote in 1918, we will begin working with various local community groups on developing our 2018 programme.

August: Egham Royal Show
New for 2017, Egham Museum is hoping to have a presence at Egham Royal Show, bringing a selection of collection artefacts and a mini pop-up exhibition.
September: Moon Dust in Egham
The launch of a short film to celebrate Prof Samuel Tolansky’s arrival in Egham and his work as part of the Apollo 11 programme.
September-December: Uncovering Egham-by-Runnymede’s LGBT History temporary exhibition
The culmination of a summer-long project.

November: Annual Supporters Reception
An event to celebrate our achievements this year, to outline future plans, and of course, to thank all our supporters for their continued involvement with the museum.
