In February 1918, The Representation of the People Act was passed which allowed men over the age of 21 and some women, the right to vote for the first time.  This came after a long suffrage campaign led by two groups; the militant Suffragettes and the peaceful Suffragists.

Over many years, women campaigned to gain equality with men.  However, it wasn’t until 1928 and the The Representation of the People (Equal Franchise) Act that the voting age was lowered to 21 for all women.
