Memories of War

Like communities across the country, Egham, Englefield Green, Thorpe and Virginia Water residents felt the impact of war.  Men were called-up to fight for King and County with many not returning.  During the Great War, Holloway Sanatorium was used to treat injured officers.

Egham’s proximity to London meant it was vulnerable to air attack during the Second World War.  Eighteen people were killed from air raids in Egham, 27 were seriously injured and a further 49 incidents of damage to property was recorded.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First World War, and to mark the upcoming 80th year since the start of the Second World War, Egham Museum have developed a number resources and events to remember those who contributed to the war effort.  Find out more in these pages https://memoriesofwar.eghammuseum.org/
