Behind the Glass: A Day at the Races

Date: Wednesday 31 March, 2021
Time: 6pm – 7pm

FREE

Behind the Glass is an opportunity to dive deeper into the Egham Museum collection and the stories it holds. Hosted by the Curatorial Team, these events will be livestreamed on Facebook and Youtube and will feature special guests, short films, oral histories and items not on permanent display.

There is still much more to learn about Early Modern Egham. How were the residents of Egham impacted by the Civil War? Could local people see London burning in 1666? Did Henry VIII really court Anne Boleyn in the shadow of the Ankerwycke Yew?

We do know that Egham was a strong agricultural community and busy coaching town; only a day’s ride from London, it became a main staging post to and from the West of England. It was also the host for a popular racing event, attended by royalty (and rogues!).

These events are free, but donations are welcomed to support our ongoing work. You can find out more at here.
