Bronze Age Runnymede, The Hythe School and the British Museum
As part of our ‘Migration & Memory’ Heritage Lottery Funded project, not only have we produced an award-winning ‘Bronze Age Runnymede: Excavations at Runnymede Bridge‘ documentary, we are now pleased to launch our learning resources for school groups.
Learning Resources
We have created a series of 4 micro-documentaries that will help answer some of your Bronze Age questions which are free and available to all schools. The short films can be found on our website, and cover the themes of:
- What was the Bronze Age
- Life in a Bronze Age Settlement
- Links with the wider World
- Why is Runnymede an important site?
These resources would suit a Key Stage 2 class who is working through the history National Curriculum covering topics in relation to “changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age”, supporting pupils with:
- developing chronologically secure knowledge and understanding of British history, establishing clear narratives within and across the periods
- connections, contrasts and trends over time and develop the appropriate use of historical terms
- understanding of how our knowledge of the past is constructed from a range of sources.
British Museum Visit
In Room 51 of the British Museum are many artefacts that tell the story of prehistoric Europe, in particular, Bronze Age items excavated here in Runnymede. You can view further teaching resources on the British Museum website.
As part of our ‘Migration & Memory’ Heritage Lottery Funded project, we are pleased to be funding The Hythe Primary School’s Year 5 class visit to the British Museum – taking place TODAY (1st March 2017) – to view some of these fascinating finds.
