Changes at the Museum
In April 2016, Sarah Corn begun her new role as the Museum’s part time Curator. Sarah is not new to curation, having been the Curator of East Grinstead Museum for over four years. She also works as Programme Leader for the South East Museum Development Programme, supporting the regions’ nearly 300 museums in their own developmental journey. As well as this, Sarah is Trustee at East Grinstead Museum, Museum Mentor for Ashford Borough Museum in Kent, and Co-Chair of the recently formed ‘Network for Change’.
For the first couple of months, preparations were made for the re-opening, after floods last August closed the Museum. After the water had dried, internal decorations were carried out, a reshuffle of display cases and a good clean, we are pleased to report that the Museum re-opened on Magna Carta Day on Saturday 11th June. New interpretation panels will be added shortly.
However, there has been a bit of a set-back as a small flood was discovered in the Museum on Saturday 18th June in the same area where the damage was sustained previously. Over the last month, further incidents of water ingress have been sustained.
We will not let this stop us though, and we plan to remain open and have put in place a temporary work-around, although we realise this is not ideal, and a longer term solution is required. Discussions with our landlords continue.
Visit us on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 4.30pm, and for a short period, on Saturdays mornings between 10am and 12.30pm (usual Saturday opening hours are 10am – 4.30pm).
