Education Sessions

Here at Egham Museum we provide a range of sessions aimed at Primary school students, covering different time periods and teaching styles.

We provide students with the unique chance to hold/ interact with real life artifacts from history, as provided by the Museum archives (Session specific).

We can provide the resources for each of the sessions, as well as lead the session with support from teachers/ teaching aids. Each session has a range of activities to choose from to best suit your classes needs.

  • Roman lifestyle session-> Learn about what life was like in the Roman times through a series of source based activities, while considering how we evaluate historical sources for accuracy and reliability.
  • Roman mosaic making session-> Children can learn about what a roman mosaic was, why they were important, and then have a go at designing and making their own roman inspired mosaic!
  • Life in the stone age session-> Children can learn about what life was like in the stone age in an interactive manner, by making their own neolithic or Mesolithic house and learning how to weave a stone age themed basket.
  • Stone age objects session-> Children can interact with and hold real life artifacts from the stone age in a handling focused session. This includes an archaeology themed sandbox dig and the chance to hold stone age objects.
  • Suffrage craft session-> Learn about the suffrage movement through a series of craft activities (e.g. write a letter to a suffragette, make a rosette, make a suffrage themed badge).
  • Women in the war session-> Through a series of crafts, comprehension activities and games, children can learn about the role of women during WW2 and why this was an important time for women’s suffrage.
  • WW2 history craft session-> Through a series of craft activities, children can learn about key aspects of the war (gas masks, ID cards, ARP) in a fun and engaging way as well as handle artifacts from the second world war.
  • WW2 rationing session-> Children can learn about what rationing was, through using craft and handling activities. They can hold a real rationing book and see what was provided to families each week, as well as design their own posters and rationing books.
  • Local heroes session-> Children have the chance to learn about heroes local to Egham (Gwen Lally, Edgell Wyatt and Henry Strode, Emily Wilding and Thomas/ Jane Holloway). Each hero comes with their own handling object and activity which will engage and entertain the children.

“It is one of the best things I’ve done in the last few years with regards to my teaching”

Becki Gray, St Cuthbert’s School

The sessions you have run with our pupils have really enhanced and enriched their history topics. They have always been so informative and hands-on and it has been great to see the children so engaged in their learning.
