Help shape the future of Egham Museum
As we approach the end of our two-year National Lottery Heritage Fund supported project, Our Museum: Reconnecting Collections and Community, we are asking local residents and interested parties to help secure the legacy of this work by completing a short 10-minute survey.
Every individual who completes the survey before 8 November 2026 will be entered into a prize draw for a £50 multi-store gift voucher.
Your feedback will help us understand the impact of the project over the past two years and help us shape our future for the benefit of the community we serve.
As a small, independent charity, community consultation is vital. By listening to local people, we can ensure that the museum remains relevant, meaningful and responsive to the needs and interests of the communities it represents, particularly at a time when many museums face significant financial challenges.
The survey will provide valuable evidence when applying for future funding and sponsorship, helping us continue to protect and share local heritage for years to come.

Term and conditions for prize giveaway
All individuals completing a survey will be eligible to enter our prize draw for a £50 multi-store gift voucher. The winner will be picked at random from all valid entries on Monday 9th November.
Each individual survey response will be given a number, and an online generator will be used to pick the winning number. We will not share your email address with any other parties.
The winner will be emailed on Monday 9th November. Should they not respond within 7 days, a second prize winner will be picked and contacted.
The winner can either collect their voucher from the museum or have it posted to them.
Our Museum project
The project had two main objectives:
- To improve the storage, understanding and accessibility of our museum collection.
- To consult with the community on how the museum can be more relevant to their lives and better represent the community it serves.

What did we achieve?
Our two objectives were designed to complement each other. As our staff and volunteers worked to improve the care of items in our collection, we used our historic objects to inspire a series of community focused projects. These included:
- An exhibition of watercolour paintings by the Egham Watercolour Society inspired by the 19th century artist, John Hassell.
- A Georgian Ball co-hosted with 10 community groups and inspired by items from our collection, including a copy of an 18th century musical score.
- Two Georgian themed reminiscence afternoon teas.
- A series of new school workshops designed to engage young people with local history.
- A programme of heritage-themed talks, events and activities, including medieval re-enactments as part of Magna Carta Day 2025.
- Our Community: Then and Now, an exhibition held at Egham United Church in June 2026, celebrating eighteen months of community collaboration and showcasing the creative work produced through the project.

Improving Our Museum
The project also delivered significant improvements to the museum itself.
Our gallery underwent a full refurbishment, introducing new stories, displays and objects while improving visitor flow, accessibility and opportunities for interaction. The redesigned gallery was officially reopened by the Mayor of Runnymede during Magna Carta Weekend 2025.
We also transformed our research room by installing unified racking and reorganising the space. This has enabled us to store more of the collection in improved environmental conditions while creating a more practical and comfortable workspace for staff and volunteers.
What now?
As the project comes to a close, we want to hear from you.
Whether you have attended an event, visited an exhibition, worked with us on a project, or simply care about local heritage, your views are important. By completing our survey, you will help us evaluate the impact of the project, identify priorities for the future, and ensure that the museum continues to develop in ways that matter to the communities of Egham, Englefield Green, Thorpe and Virginia Water.
Thank you for helping us shape the next chapter of your local museum.
Complete the survey by 8th November 2026 and help us build a stronger, more connected museum for the future: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfWidWxNIMNTF517pgSe_f0eo9CofosJne5Fg-zFlgE4rj9_A/viewform?usp=publish-editor
