Roads, pavements, junctions are all much the same. Journeys, car chases and ordinary features of suburban life have to be filmed somewhere so why not here?

Exterior scenes for Holby Blue (2007-2008) a spin off from the BBC TV series Holby City, were filmed around Egham, and where Romesh Ranganathan’s character walked his children to school in The Reluctant Landlord (Sky One, 2018-2019).

Seance on a Wet Afternoon (1964) directed by local resident Bryan Forbes, included scenes of a car driving along the road where The Glanty intersected with The Avenue, at what is now Woodhaw, and outside the former Coach and Horses pub, before heading along The Causeway towards The Hythe.

Cars have to wait at the Pooley Green level crossing in Take a Girl Like You (1970) and Spaceways (1953).

A building in Virginia Water appeared as a disused garage raided by the police in
Hated in the Nation (2016), an episode of the Netflix series Black Mirror.

Virginia Water station and its forecourt were disguised as Weyport East in British comedy Further Up the Creek (1958).

Some scenes from the Netflix series The End of the F***cking World (2017) were filmed around Virginia Water and roads on the Wentworth Estate were used for hitchhiker scenes in Slaughter High (1986).

A Thames TV series Seeing and Doing (1975) included children from Surrenden School in Englefield Green learning about a building site.

The 21st century phenomenon of television reality shows makes frequent use of backgrounds like Royal Holloway and Thorpe Park.
