Projects between Egham Museum and Strode’s College

As we settle further into the academic year, we reflect on how we have worked with our Strode’s College neighbours, and look forward to exciting future partnership projects.

Earlier this year, we set Strode’s College Design & Technology students a task… to create Magna Carta inspired pedestals and memorial models to be put on display as part of the Museum’s Magna Carta pop-up exhibition held in the United Church in June.  Supported by D&T teacher Jim Brennon, the class of Year 12 pupils were given 10 weeks to design and make their creations.

Inspiration came from existing memorials and monuments, from the themes of the Magna Carta, and beyond.  Five pedestals and five memorial monuments were chosen for inclusion in our exhibition, which was held the two weeks either side of Magna Carta Day.

The final pieces were marked as part of the student’s end of year work and we are pleased to report all received good grades.  Mr Brennon stated:

I was delighted that the students responded so positively to the design briefs set and those selected for display at the pop-up exhibition were thrilled to see their work on public display. The exam board commented that the students are being “inspired” to produce some creative work which is clearly testimony to how well our liaison is working.

A follow-on project with the students was that of our ‘Monuments’ brief, which asked the class to design a monument of the future, utilising their Photoshop skills.  The end work will accompany our ‘Monuments’ slideshow that will soon be published on our website.

Henry Strode and His Legacy:  Temporary Exhibition

We are delighted to announce that Egham Museum’s next temporary exhibition will be on ‘Henry Strode and his Legacy’, celebrating 310 years since the opening of the original boys’ school.  The exhibition will open later in October.
