Egham Museum receives National Lottery funding
The Egham Museum Trustees are delighted to announce that The Egham Museum has received a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant of £93,000 for an exciting heritage project, “50 More Years of Egham Museum”. Made possible by money raised by National Lottery players, the project focuses on developing the tools and activities that will enable the Museum to a generate income which, in the longer term, will lead to a stronger financial foundation on which the Museum can continue to grow.
The Egham Museum works with residents and community groups across the localities of Egham, Egham Hythe, Englefield Green, Thorpe and Virginia Water using the collection and stories they tell to engage, inspire and create conversations between visitors of all ages. It has been operating since 1968 and last year, celebrated its 50th anniversary with an exciting film that looked back at the previous 50 years, the motivations of the founding volunteers, the collections they acquired, and the passion they and subsequent volunteers have had for their community museum. With challenging and uncertain financial times ahead, the Museum must think creatively and realistically about its future if it is to thrive over the next 50 years, ensuring it contributes not only social priorities and civic pride but also economically impacts the town.
Commenting on the award, Curator Sarah Corn said:
“We are thrilled to have received this support thanks to National Lottery players. We are extremely proud of our heritage and what has been achieved these past 50 years, but the Museum is not just about looking back – we need to consider how best to diversify our offer to best meet the needs of our community for another 50+ years. We believe the Museum is a valuable asset to the town and will be a vital place for reflection, learning and celebration as the town centre continues to change and develop in the coming months and years.”
As part of the project, we are now recruiting an Assistant Curator (2-years fixed term contract, 18 hours per week, £22,500 p.a pro rata). For further details please read the Job Description and Person Specification.
